Toronto mall hours for Thanksgiving Monday, 12 October 2026
Which Toronto malls open on Thanksgiving Monday, which close and which have posted nothing, read from 24 malls' own sites on 2 October 2026.
CF Toronto Eaton Centre opens 11am to 7pm on Thanksgiving Monday, 12 October 2026 (its usual Sunday hours). Yorkdale, Sherway Gardens, Fairview and Scarborough Town Centre all close. Opening would risk a fine of up to $50,000, or the day's takings if greater.
They have no say in it. Only five districts hold an exemption from the City's holiday bylaw, and the Eaton Centre has held its own since 1995.
It is an odd map, and an old one. Since April 2026 any shop may open on Family Day and Victoria Day, the City's holiday shopping page says. Thanksgiving still shuts most shops outside five districts drawn between 1994 and 2005.
Quick facts
- Open: CF Toronto Eaton Centre, 11am to 7pm on Monday 12 October 2026

- Not posted: 6 malls as of 2 October 2026, Bayview Village among them
- Listed at the Eaton Centre: 7 shops in this directory, Simons among them
- The rule: Thanksgiving Day is a retail holiday under the City's Chapter 510, and 5 districts are exempt
Where you can shop on Thanksgiving Monday
Thanksgiving Monday is a downtown shopping day. The Eaton Centre's visitor page lists 12 October at 11am to 7pm, and Simons and Dolce Vita are two of the seven shops this directory lists there. Queen and TMU stations (TMU is the former Dundas) both connect straight into the mall, so leave the car at home.
Yorkville Village, two blocks north of Bloor at 55 Avenue Road, says on its getting here page that select stores open on holidays from 10am to 6pm. It names neither the stores nor the date, so ring first. Drivers pay at most $11 for the day in its garage, the holiday rate on its contact page.
Centerpoint Mall, at Yonge and Steeles, shuts its stores, but the Heritage Antique Market, running since 1979, takes over the building on statutory holidays. Its page lists Thanksgiving Monday among its 2026 dates, 9:30am to 5pm, free to enter. The flea markets note has the rest.
Five bylaws drew the map
Chapter 510 of the Municipal Code shuts most shops on Thanksgiving Day, then exempts five districts named in older bylaws. Queens Quay West came first, in 1994, and the Toronto Eaton Centre followed in 1995. Downtown Yonge joined in 2002, Bloor Yorkville in 2004 and the Distillery Historic District in 2005.
The exemption lets a shop open. It does not make one.
Bloor Yorkville runs from Church Street to Avenue Road and from Scollard Street to Charles Street, its business area's site says. The Distillery District says it is open 364 days a year, 10am to 8pm on Mondays.
One big mall opens on Thanksgiving Monday, and a 1995 bylaw is why it can.
Closed on 12 October
Cadillac Fairview keeps one mall open, downtown, and shuts Sherway Gardens, Fairview and Shops at Don Mills. Oxford Properties shuts Yorkdale and Scarborough Town Centre, and RioCan shuts Lawrence Allen Centre and The Albion Centre.
Dufferin Mall and Gerrard Square close, and so does Cloverdale Mall on The East Mall. Further out, Centerpoint Mall at Yonge and Steeles, Cedarbrae Centre on Lawrence Avenue East and Malvern Town Centre in Scarborough all post 12 October 2026 as closed.
Three need no date at all. Woodbine Mall in Etobicoke, Bridlewood Mall in Scarborough and Parkway Mall on Ellesmere Road keep Thanksgiving on standing lists of the holidays they close.
Monday suits one errand downtown. A longer list belongs to the Sunday, Harry Rosen at Yorkdale and Outlined at Sherway Gardens included. No mall posts a change for Sunday 11 October, and Yorkdale keeps its usual 11am to 7pm.
Nothing posted as of 2 October 2026
Six malls had posted no Thanksgiving hours for their shops. The Manulife Centre is the one to watch: it sits inside Bloor Yorkville, so it may open, and Over the Rainbow trades in the building.
Bayview Village lists only its weekly hours, and the holiday list at Woodside Square stops at Labour Day. Agincourt Mall and Yorkgate Mall print nothing for the day, and The Well says its market, restaurants and entertainment open on statutory holidays, with no word on its shops.
Christmas Eve to New Year's Day
Fifteen malls already list Christmas Day, three of them on the standing lists above. Of the five dates, only Christmas Day and New Year's Day are on the City's holiday list, so the rest are each mall's own call.
Christmas Day, Friday 25 December, is the one date they agree on: all fifteen close. Even the Eaton Centre.
Christmas Eve, Thursday 24 December, ends by 6pm at every mall that has posted it. Fairview, Dufferin Mall, Cedarbrae and Lawrence Allen Centre stay open until 6pm; the other six close at 5pm, the Eaton Centre among them. Cadillac Fairview's four malls open at 9am, an hour before the rest.
Boxing Day, Saturday 26 December, is the long one. The Eaton Centre and Yorkdale open first, at 8am, and close at 9:30pm and 9pm; Fairview opens at 9am and stays latest, to 10pm. Sherway, Don Mills and Dufferin Mall keep 9am to 9pm, and Malvern shuts first, at 5pm.
New Year's Eve, Thursday 31 December, repeats Christmas Eve at nine of the ten malls that posted both. Shops at Don Mills opens an hour later, at 10am.
New Year's Day, Friday 1 January 2027, belongs to the Eaton Centre, open noon to 7pm. Every other mall that has posted it is closed.
Common questions
Is Yorkdale open on Thanksgiving Monday?
No. Yorkdale lists 12 October 2026 among its closed holidays and reopens at 10am on Tuesday 13 October. Boxing Day is the next holiday it lists as open.
What stores are open on Thanksgiving Monday in Toronto?
Shops in the five exempt districts may open, and elsewhere only a few kinds of business can. Chapter 510 allows shops under 2,400 square feet with three people serving or fewer, if they sell only food, tobacco, antiques, handicrafts, fresh produce, or books and magazines.
Pharmacies under 7,500 square feet, small galleries, gas stations and nurseries may open too.
Is Thanksgiving Monday a statutory holiday in Ontario?
Yes. Thanksgiving Day is one of nine public holidays in the province's employment standards guide, and one of seven days on which the City still closes most shops. Boxing Day is on the province's list and not the City's, and Easter Sunday is the other way round.
