Over the Rainbow. Suite 123 at 55 Bloor Street West, inside the Manulife Centre, phone 416 967 7448. Its tailor shop works on jeans bought from Over the Rainbow, in store or online, and nothing else.

• Open Sunday to Wednesday 11am to 6pm, Thursday to Saturday 11am to 7pm.
• Regular hem $18, jeans to short hem $18, original hem $22.
• Waist taken in or let out $25, leg taper $25, zipper replaced $25.
• Buy a pair at full price and the bottom hem is free, in store only.
• Jeans must arrive clean, work is paid up front, altered jeans are final sale.

Two counters that take outside work

Stitch It. Two downtown counters: unit C-3 at 60 Bloor Street West, and unit 54 at 66 Wellington Street West. The Bloor counter runs 9am to 6pm on weekdays and 9am to 5pm Saturday, the Wellington counter 8:30am to 5pm on weekdays.

Gotstyle. Second floor at 21 Trinity Street in the Distillery District, open 11am to 7pm on weekdays, 10am to 6pm Saturday and 11am to 6pm Sunday. Basic alterations on full price clothes cost nothing, advanced work is charged, and outside garments are taken as time allows.

Suiting in the towers

Vassi. 100 King Street West, inside First Canadian Place, phone 416 363 8060. Its tailoring page names hemming trousers, resizing jackets and fine tuning shirts, with no price, turnaround or hours anywhere on the site.

Jeans, and where the hem money goes

Over the Rainbow sells 34 Heritage, AG Jeans, AGOLDE, Citizens of Humanity, DL 1961, Edwin, Frame, Mother, Naked & Famous and Paige. Its $22 original hem lifts the factory stitching to the new length, against $18 for a plain one. Bring a pair bought elsewhere and the answer is no, in writing, on the shop's own page.

Stitch It will hem those jeans from $14.89, under a 30 Day Fit Guarantee, and takes walk ins. Gotstyle takes them when the queue allows. Wear the shoes you will wear with the jeans, because the heel sets the length.

Over the Rainbow hems the jeans it sold. It will not touch a pair bought elsewhere.

Where can I get designer clothes altered in Toronto?

Stitch It on Bloor Street and Gotstyle in the Distillery District both take clothes bought elsewhere. Over the Rainbow does not, and Vassi says nothing either way on its site. Phone first with the garment and the fabric named.
